One effort that needs to be appreciated is the founding pillar of Kuala Kapuas roundabout. On one side of this roundabout featuring a statue of orangutans and their habitat. And at the two edges of the circle have two hornbill statue or bird tingang.

Bird Tingang very important part of Dayak Kapuas culture. Once the importance of this bird is no wonder then placing it as a symbol Kapuas region with the slogan “Tingang Menteng Panunjung Tarung”.
Hopefully with the monument, the roundabout and park in this town, the Kapuas district will be able to also prepare a real habitat for orangutans, birds tingang and other rare endemic species.



From the Indonesian Wikipedia (free encyclopedia) obtained data that the bird is Tingang or hornbills hornbills in the Indonesian language.
Tingang Bird (English: Hornbill) is a type of bird beak-shaped horns that have a cow, but without the circle. Usually light colored beak. Scientific name is “Buceros” refers to the beak shape and has the meaning “cow horn” in Greek.
Hornbills classified Bucerotidae group which including 57 species. Nine of them are endemic species in southern Africa. The food, especially fruits, are also lizards, bats, rats, snakes and various types of insects.
When the time brood, female hornbills lay up to six white eggs seed trapped inside the cage nest, made among others of dirt and skin of fruit. There is only one small openings sufficient to reach male birds food to children and female hornbills.
If the baby bird and the female bird is no longer fit in the nest, bird nest the female will break out and build another wall, and two adult birds will find food for the children of birds. In some species, chicks themselves to rebuild the broken walls without the help of an adult bird.


Bird Tingang Dayak Cultural Symbol

In the culture of Borneo (Dayak), hornbills (tingang) is the symbol of “Upper World ” or god’s world  that is “masculine”. On the island of Kalimantan, hornbills sacred area used as a symbol or symbols such organizations in Sarawak state emblem, the symbol of Central Kalimantan province, a symbol of the University of Lambung Mangkurat and so forth. Hornbills realized in the form of engravings on Dayak culture, whereas in the Banjar culture, hornbills carved in the form of disguised (didistilir) because the Banjar culture to grow under the influence of Islam that forbids the existence of animate beings carving. Hornbills which disguised its form used as a chisel tip on Houses Banjar Pilis.


Bird Tingang the Symbol of  Kapuas District
This is the symbol of the Kapuas district, which clearly illustrates the midst Tingang Bird logo. Meanwhile, on ribbon inscribed at the bottom with local fisolofi said it is also clear that reads: “Tingang Menteng Panunjung Tarung.”
